ARTIST PROFILE
Abstract Communication
I have always felt I don't articulate myself adequately. Either my words come out wrong, or the tone is off, or the humor is misinterpreted. I have always been envious of friends, family, and colleagues who seem to speak so easily, so well, so thoughtfully.
What draws me to art, and more specifically abstract art, is the feeling behind it and the feeling it provokes. In my opinion art is both subjective and underrated. I don't necessarily believe there's "good art" and "bad art"; I think you either like a piece or you don't, you're either moved by a piece or you're not. The fact you can look at a piece of art and feel moved by it - potentially feeling what the artist felt - is powerful. I find that to be communication in its truest form, or at the very least a fleeting moment of feeling understood.
When I finish a painting I find myself at peace and frankly, spent. I find it both relaxing and mentally taxing, invigorating and exhausting. It teeters between complete confidence and utter vulnerability. It is how I communicate best; all words previously left unsaid are released, all emotions otherwise bottled up are freed.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
"The final test of a painting, theirs, mine, any other, is: does the painter's emotions come across?" - Franz Kline
